"Ballet is not just movement, not simply abstract. It’s something beautiful. Sometimes there’s this feeling in the movement that makes me want to cry." - Nina Ananiashvili
Ballet is perhaps the most well-known dance form across the world. It is a type of dance known for its rigid technique, prima ballerinas and full history. Ask anyone about pointe shoes or a tutu, and they will immediately conjure the lithe form of a ballerina performing pirouettes across a stage. However, there is much more depth to the rigorous dance known as Ballet than magnificent costumes, and the well-known female Ballerina is supported by strong male dancers. Some other forms of dance, such as Modern, stemmed from rebellious dancers breaking free from the highly technical rules of Ballet. Today, traditional Ballet dance is still strong, although many offshoots, such as Contemporary Ballet, are also prevalent.
