Bringing the Arts to Life! www.carnegiehallwv.org Carnegie Hall was built in 1902 with funds donated by steel baron and philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, to the former Lewisburg Female Institute, later the Greenbrier College for women. Carnegie Hall, Inc. was established in 1983 as a regional not-for-profit arts and education center to serve Southern West Virginia. The historic, Greek-revival structure houses an auditorium, studios for painting, weaving, pottery and dance; a museum; kitchen; administrative offices; and several other rooms for public and private meetings, classes, lectures, receptions and gatherings of all kinds. World renowned artists such as Isaac Stern, Wynton Marsalis, The Moscow Dramatic Ballet, Doc Watson, Kathy Mattea, Ralphs Stanley, Judy Collins and the West Virginia Symphony have performed on Carnegie Hall's stage. Carnegie Hall plays a crucial role in the educational, economic and cultural development of its region. Recognized nationally and locally as an outstanding arts organization, Carnegie Hall serves thousands of students, residents and tourists of the Greenbrier Valley each year.
