Belly Dancing

Join Meela every Wednesday at 9am for a fun, energetic, sensual, educational and joyful Womens Only Bellydance class experience. All levels of dance experience are welcome from beginner to advanced, and pregnant moms are happily encouraged to participate as we experience the sacred art of the oldest dance in the world. In each class we will explore the basic technique of the dance, also known as Raqs Sharqui or dance of the East with movements from Northern and Southern Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey, including foot patterns, arm placement, traveling steps, hip work, turns and balancing steps and fun steps for dancing at parties, as well as for performance at any venue. Over the course of this ongoing class, we will also learn veil technique and finger cymbals. Teacher Meela has danced, performed, taught and lectured throughout NYC and the US as well as internationally. Meela has performed the art of Bellydance in community events, festivals and stage for over three decades with various troupes and as a soloist. Her cultural background also informs her teaching as her familys roots are in Southern Egypt and Ethiopia and Afro-Native American. She is also a Brazilian/Orisha Dance teacher and Yoga Instructor. She seeks to create a dynamic community of which brings Fun, Wellness and Healing for all her students. More Info below.
