An Evening Of Modern Dance

Watch brand new works created by local choreographer and dancer Taylor Ellen - artistic director of the Statesboro Youth Ballet - and Atlanta-based guest choreographer and professional dancer Clara Guyton. Featuring local dancer Ceci Smith, SCAD student Julián Morales, Statesboro Youth Ballet alumna Gennevieve Wright, and select students of the Statesboro Youth Ballet; including Ana Grace Evans, Annie O’Neill, Analisa Harter, and Laurel Boyles. Originally created with the intention of breaking away from the strict, upright characteristics of classical ballet, Modern Dance allowed dancers and choreographers the freedom to explore bare feet, floor work, and working in parallel versus the rotation of the lower body required in ballet, amongst other techniques considered unique at the time. With a free-spirited nature and the use of a variety of dynamics, Modern Dance appeals to a larger demographic because anyone, regardless of background or dance interest, can relate to this type of dance rather than ballet. From music, costuming, and intention - even technical movement versus pedestrian steps – the variety of art and technique will keep the audience engaged throughout the entire show as local dancers demonstrate how the term “modern dance” represents a colorful, truly unique type of dance. Tickets: $15 | $10 students & seniors More Info below.
