Get in touch with your inner-creative self! Modern dance allows you to express yourself in a manner that is good for the body and soul. Creative expression is healthy and fun! This class is for beginners; please join us if you have always wanted to try dance, this class is for you! Class structure includes warm-up, center work, strengthening exercises and traveling across the floor. Basic principles of dance, body mechanics, techniques, and a variety of movement techniques are introduced and explored through floor /center work, as well as through short movement combinations. In addition, modern will focus on breathing and body awareness in order to improve the quality of one’s movement. Students will develop the means for individual expression and seek inner motivation for movement. Unlike most other forms, modern dance’s ultimate goal is not performance aesthetic, but instead how a dancer feels upon creating movement. This class is offered in a safe, non-judgmental, playful environment. Excited to see you on the dance floor!
What To Wear:
Class is done in barefeet, so no need to buy shoes! Comfortable exercise clothing is fine! Most adults wear a tank top or t shirt and exercise pants/leggings. You can bring a pair of footie socks to use for the ballet warm ups. Alli will explain this more in class.

Alli loves sharing her passion of dance, receiving a minor in dance at Berea College in Kentucky. She is excited to bring an Adult Modern Dance Class to the Akron/Canton community, and hopes to create a community of people who want to move. Her mission is to nurture the body and spirit through movement while building a community. Dance offers a great workout, the opportunity for every individual to gain confidence in their abilities, and to move their body at their own comfort level. Alli is also a certified Zumba instructor, IBBFA Barre Fitness Instructor and IBBFA Stretch and Tone Instructor. She has taught beginner lessons, immediate lessons, and lead dance at numerous charity events. She gained experience teaching children and adults modern dance, hip hop, and swing dance. Alli loves seeing every student experience a greater sense of their body, happiness, and accomplishment after every class. She believes every class should be supportive, fun, challenging, and have great music. Alli extends a welcome to ask any questions you may have before or after class. All levels and abilities are welcome.
