Listening Out For Violins: A Tango Music Talk

Musically enriched dancing begins with polyphonic listening, with hearing all the deeper layers and subtler details. Many tangos have what I call 'hidden violins', violin countermelodies hidden beneath more prominent tunes and stronger rhythms. Many dancers aren't fully aware of them. But once you hear them, you cannot unhear them -- and they will completely transform how you listen to the tangos. In this talk, we'll be identifying some of these counterpoint melodies, discussing how they vary by orchestra and exploring ways to incorporate a sensitivity to them into our dance. More Info below.
