HOW TO TAKE FREE & DISCOUNTED CLASSES
Please see guidelines below on how to sign up for classes during NYC Dance Week. You may not use Front Desk to sign up for the classes (it's for viewing schedule only) being offered by the participating studios. It is only for the Fitness Labs. If the studio requires it (check their special instructions), please sign up with them directly.
Step 1. Register for Free here on Eventbrite. (also required for taking the free Fitness Labs)
Step 2. Check the OFFERS from participating studios in May 2019. Pay close attention to their special instructions.
Step 3. Print out the pass you receive in the registration confirmation e-mail from Eventbrite and bring to participating studio. Depending on the studio, it may be collected but you may print as many times as you want.
Step 4. Have a great time and tag us on your status updates and photos during the week! #NYCDanceWeek2019 @nycdanceweek
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 1. All the classes are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some classes require advanced reservations with the studio. 2. Some classes have restrictions (i.e. New students only). 3. Please read the studios’ special instructions, i.e. RSVP required.
4. Call the studio directly for questions on what to wear, bring, etc. and to confirm the class. Sometimes we do not get notified when their schedule changes.

In partnership with the Union Square Partnership, NYC Dance Week invites all dance enthusiasts and the general public to its Kick-Off Performance event with free performances. There will be a flash mob prior to the dueling performance by Angel Kaba’s company and guest artists.

Join us for this 90-minute workshop on techniques for releasing soft tissue using foam rollers, massage balls, and other tools. We will look at anatomical images corresponding to the tissues we are addressing and cover healthy post-release stretching. Dancers and the general public are welcome. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own favorite foam roller (or massage ball or other self-massage tool). Space for this workshop, provided in conjunction with the Harkness Center Healthy Dancer Initiative, is generously provided by the Mark Morris Dance Center.

During the festival, dance enthusiasts may also participate in a series of unique, ethnic Fitness Labs sponsored by our festival affiliate FitEngine, Inc., a trusted source for inside information on fitness and wellness. FitEngine is providing studio space for approved instructors. Labs range from unique dance/fitness classes to techniques. Schedule will be posted on our website in May 2019.

Dance Week participants are also invited to watch performances of new dance works with various genres at a special showcase by its sister project, Funkar, a NYC10 Dance Initiative, at Dixon Place on Wednesday, June 19th. Selected emerging choreographers /studio instructors and dance companies will be performing for up to 10 mins and the audience and reviewers will provide feedback of their work to them.

Dancer for a Day is a NYC Dance Week initiative that provides inner-city youth facing a unique challenge with the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a professional dancer. In its fifth year, Dancer for a Day will choose up to 20 youth, ages 10-15, to participate in a day filled with class taking, a nutritional workshop, lunch, a private performance by and Q&A with a NYC10 dance company.
