Thursday, October 19th Glover Gill on the piano followed by DJ Patrick Glovertango performs the passionate and captivating traditional music of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Drawing on arrangements from the Golden Age of Tango, the group combines faithful renditions of early 20th century tangos, milongas, and waltzes with original compositions in the classic style. The foremost provocateur of tango in Austin, Texas, Glover Johns Gill leads the group on accordion and bandoneón. Accompanying him is Justin Sherburn on piano and Chris Maresh on bass. The Tosca String Quartet completes the ensemble, and the result is a tango orchestra much like the classic groups of Francisco Canaro, Carlos Di Sarli, Anibal Troilo and Osvaldo Pugliese Thursday, October 26th Hora Once Live Hora Once is a project of collaborative efforts that began when local Austin harp-guitarist Adam Carney and accordionist Mike Maddux teamed up with sensational vocalist Ana Maria Barajas of Colombia. Drawing from a vast pool of influences from North to South America, the group creates music with influences of Tango, Brazilian Choro, and Andean folk music. Being lifelong musicians, they also pull from musical experiences in the classical realm and into the Eastern hemisphere. With these influences, Hora Once (Eleventh Hour) composes original pieces with haunting melodies and moving rhythms with story-telling lyrics of heart felt poetry. Hora Once performs regularly in Austin and central Texas at festivals, special events and private parties, wineries and restaurants. They can be heard performing adaptations of pieces by their favorite composers, including Astor Piazzolla, Violeta Parra and Pixinguinha. When performing for the Austin Tango scene at the late night Milongas, they will sometimes appear as a quintet with guest musicians and perform songs from the Golden Era of Tango for dancing enthusiasts and onlookers drinking wine. Ana Maria Barajas is a multilingual classically trained vocalist, Adam Carney performs on his 7-string guitar and his custom made 14-string harp guitar, and Mike Maddux performs on his accordion and custom made bandoneon.
