Melissa and Rebo Summer Samba Double Header is back! In this energetic and lively class, Melissa and Rebo will share their passion for the Samba de Malandro and Passista, and their respect to the varieties of style and movements of Samba. Gentleman or lady, this fun, style-filled class is for you! Bring your fedora, heels and swagger! Intermediate/Advanced level $20 for workshop per person What to wear: Clothes you feel comfortable dancing (and sweating in). Barefoot, sneakers, dance shoes, heels are welcome! About Instructors: Rebo: Rebo, as she's known to her students, is an long-time student of Brazilian and Afro-Diasporic dance. Since 2000, she has shared her love of Brazilian dance through classes and workshops taught in the US and internationally. Her areas of interest include samba no pé, samba de roda, samba reggae, "dança afro," and devotional dances of the orixás. Her classes focusing on developing technique, understanding the culture and history behind the dances, and embodying the Brazilian spirit of "alegria" (joy). In addition to teaching classes in the community to students of all ages, Rebo also collaborates with other instructors to promote workshops and classes in other Afro-Diaspora dance styles. She worked as a choreographer and dance director for the Austin Samba School. She has trained in Brazil and the U.S. with such teachers as Rosangela Silvestre, Ana Laidley, Nildinha Fonseca, Janete Silva Aide, and Agatha Oliveira, among others. Her dance background also includes Afro‐Cuban, West African, salsa, jazz, ballet, modern, and capoeira. Melissa ("Meli"): Melissa Corpus is a Dancer, Teacher and Choreographer in Austin, Texas. Since 2010, she has been teaching samba no pe focusing on footwork, technique and the joy of the Brazilian spirit. Melissa has worked with Austin Samba, the largest samba school in the United States, as a choreographer, director and principal dancer. She has traveled to Brazil and throughout the United States to study with Patrick Carvalho and members of Cia Dom, Ana Laidley, Rosangela Silvestre, Danielle Lima, Rodrigo Marques and Pedro Rosa. In 2014, she paraded in Rio de Janeiro with the legendary G.R.E.S. Estação Primeira de Mangueira. In addition to Samba, Melissa also teaches,choreographs and performs Salsa, Bachata and Cha Cha Cha. She founded MeliSamba, a professional Samba performance group, and is excited to spread the Alegria of dance to the Austin community and beyond More Info below.
