The ✨ 11th Philadelphia Tango Festival ✨ takes place over Memorial Day Weekend: Friday, May 26 through late night Monday, May 29. THE THEME: IMPROVISATION The festival is thematic. All activities are organized around the central theme of: IMPROVISATION in tango dance & music. As such, we are super-honored to welcome two couples who are among the best living tango improvisers: 💥 Octavio Fernandez & Corina Herrera 💥 Cecilia Garcia & Serkan Gokcesu If you'd like to study in-depth with either couple (or both!), you have the chance to take a four-workshop seminar. Additional non-seminar workshops are also available. PRODUCING NEW TANGO MUSIC This festival also inaugurates a new tradition... From now on, the Philadelphia Tango Festival will always PRODUCE a new tango album of infectiously danceable tango music! Our goal is to foment the writing and recording of excellent music for social dancers. In 2023, we are producing the debut album of the 💫 Tipica Messiez 💫. It will be recorded in Buenos Aires in February 2023 and made available for the first time at the festival. LIVE MUSIC EVERY NIGHT The festival features LIVE MUSIC EVERY NIGHT, both seated concerts and extremely danceable music during milongas. Musicians include: ✅ Tipica Messiez Tango Orchestra ✅ Juan Villarreal & Patricio Crom ✅ Romo-Agri-Messiez Trio ✅ Hugo Satorre & Leandro Roucco ✅ Amazing combinations of the above DJS We're super-stoked about our excellent DJs: 💗 Friday Night: Jackie Pham 💗 Saturday Night: Octavio Fernandez 💗 Saturday Late Night: Craig Herrington 💗 Sunday Night: Eric Lindgren 💗 Monday Night: Carla Marano ARGENTINE FOLKLORE We are excited to welcome Nick Wallach, who will be teaching & performing Argentine folkloric dance during the festival, including workshops in zamba and chacarera. He'll be collaborating with musicians, including Hugo, Juan, Pato, Leandro to create a peña (folkloric dance party) on the final festival evening. AMAZING VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES Our festival offers the most varied set of activities that we've ever seen at a tango festival. In addition to all of the above, it includes: ✅ Lectures on a variety of tango topics ✅ A masterclass for singers with maestro Juan Villarreal ✅ Four themed practicas (open role, live music open mic, folkloric dancing, and a practica co-guided by a musician and dancer about tango improvisation) ✅ Your first chance to see the new tango documentary, EL SONIDO DE ANTES / THE HIDDEN SOUND OF TANGO by filmmaker Yael Szmulewicz ✅ A four-class beginner track taught by Martin Enos All the details & pre-registration: [hidden] SUPER-EARLY-BIRD PRICING ends on March 1.
