Yonkers New York native, Carlos Jimenez, is an extraordinary flute player and vocalist as well as composer and bandleader of Jazz, Latin jazz and Salsa.
His formal training in music began when his family moved from New York to Villalba, Puerto Rico when he was six years old. The young musician studied trumpet and then flute under Professor Pablo Leon at Fransisco Zayas Santana High School. Carlos returned to New York as a teenager to study flute at the Music Conservatory of Westchester. There he expanded his repertoire to include jazz, studying privately with master musicians Mario Rivera; Dave Valentin; Bobby Porcelli; Mitch Frohman; Vinnie Rickitelli; Rolando Briseno and Enrique Fernandez. A few years later he studied harmony and voicings with master pianist, Mike Longo as well as Alfredo Valdes Jr. and Hilton Ruiz.
Carlos has recorded his own compositions and arrangements of Jazz, Latin Jazz and Salsa with: Hilton Ruiz, Oscar Hernandez Stephane Ronget, David Schnitter, Edy Martinez, Dave Valentin, Sonny Bravo, Gilberto "El Pulpo" Colon, Ray Martinez, Eddie Montalvo, Nicky Marrero, Lewis Kahn, Bobby Porcelli, Jorge Maldonado, and Alfredo Valdes Jr.
He has performed in New York, across the country and internationally with: Willie Colon; Barry Harris; Bernie Minoso; Felix Cruz; Hector Martignon; Leroy Williams; Checo Freeman; George Coleman; Lew Soloff; Cecil Bridgewater; Leon Lee Dorsey; Lisle Atkinson; Earl May; Victor Venegas; Arturo Ortiz; Mike Ekroth; Johnny Mambo; Javier Vazquez; Bill O'Connell; Burt Eckoff; Craig Holiday Haynes; Frankie Vazquez; Herman Olivera and many others.
