Held in the club section of a very large cultural center dance hall and attracting at least 200+ people each Friday, this long-running event has a true neighborhood Latino atmosphere and great music vibe, with friends newcomers welcomed to join in. The music is excellent, though very loud for a few people (bring your earplugs - Click Here for special musician's ear plugs), and many people are clapping, singing and playing percussion instruments and, of course, dancing. This social club has been running for almost 50 years, one of the oldest Latino cultural centers in NYC. Decent size dance floor which is medium speed. Most of the people are dancing on various salsa timings, with some On 2. About 25% of the people dance On 2. You may wish to bring along an On 2 partner or group or invite some through social media. The On 2 crowd starts coming around 12:30 AM, with people still coming in at 2:00 AM. The event goes very late until around 4:00 AM. There are beverages for sale and lots of tables chairs, plus many people standing. The crowd is of all ages, some from the On 2 scene and many from the neighborhood and lots of others from elsewhere. I cannot emphasize enough: The classic salsa music played here is some of the best in NYC, and the atmosphere is pure Latino, with almost everyone having the natural rhythm of the music they grew up with and usually singing along. It is an excellent influence for non-Latino salsa dancers who are interested in experiencing the source environment of the salsa we dance to. More Info below.
