Twilight in the Park concerts are interesting events when a good swing band is playing (in general, the concerts go on all summer on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays). I will most likely not be able to make this one myself, but dancing to a great big band orchestra outdoors is something worth considering. Schedules tend to change, double-check at [hidden] . The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra is a truly great San Diego big band, they plan to play "Big Band Swing and Jazz". The event is somewhat special since the dance happens in front of a lot of spectators at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Logistics: event is free, allow plenty of time for parking (the best lot is behind the organ pavilion, but you will need lots good luck to score a spot there). Last-chance parking is on the President's Way (can be a 15-minute walk), there are many in-between options. Bring your own water bottle. Sun is low at the time, but there is very little shade. Floor: the dance goes on in an area to the right of the organ, on a concrete pavement. The surface is rough, leave your good shoes at home. Seating is on he concrete steps (the regular seating for spectators is too far away), bringing one's own chair used to be OK, not sure now. The crowd: usually a smallish group about 30 people of mixed skills. There is a dance lesson between 5 and 6 PM by the International Dance Association of San Diego County, check their site at [hidden] (currently no schedule) or contact them. Definitely consider bringing your own dance partner. More Info below.
