Jazzy Valentine 2024

The twelfth JAZZY VALENTINE, presented by the Roy Scott Big Band, kicks off at 7:30 on Valentine’s weekend, Saturday February 10, in the Golden Lion Ballroom at the Sons of Italy, 120 Quarry Street, in Quincy, MA. This annual event draws dancers and music-lovers from around the South Shore and beyond to enjoy an exciting evening of danceable tunes from one of the area’s best big bands. The Roy Scott Big Band founded in 1988, has mastered a large repertoire from the big band era – Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, and classics of the Great American Songbook – plus great arrangements from more recent eras, from “Moondance” and “Soul Man” through “Thriller” and “Uptown Funk.” Its eighteen dedicated musicians love and enjoy playing this music – especially for dancers of all levels. Vocalist Ruth Debrot fronts the band on many highlight numbers; she’s a talented and energetic performer who has headlined many venues. The band is led this year by Vin Macrina, the esteemed, longtime Director of Music for Brockton Public Schools, who brings the musical flair of his award-winning jazz ensembles to the RSBB. JAZZY VALENTINE returns to the Sons of Italy in Quincy after a successful post-pandemic debut in 2023. The Ballroom offers an expansive dance floor, table seating, and a cash bar. A complimentary, deluxe dessert assortment and coffee are part of the evening’s hospitality.
