Creating A Persuasive Narrative With Data

Event Details: As HR professionals we are all faced at times with the challenge of trying to persuade others of the benefits with new ways of working, needing additional resources or to create a better employee proposition for the organisation. Challenges can come from within our own HR function or the wider organisation we work for. Regardless of where HR professionals work, we have access to a vast array of data. As HR continues to build its professional standing with senior management and in the Boardroom, the need to be a credible advisor is ever present. One of the key ways to shape and influence business, to show the value we add and increase the reputation of HR and us as practitioners, is to underpin our advice and guidance with an evidence base of data that creates a persuasive narrative. This interactive talk explores how HR professionals can do this regardless of the size of our function or organisation. The CIPD profession map introduced, professional values for HR practitioners with a new element on evidence based decisions. The talk will examine where diverse sources of data can be easily identified and incorporated to help build compelling arguments. It also explores how HR professionals when faced with anecdotal evidence can manage those discussions and how to evaluate it in our organisations. The talk will cover: • What are your sources and where to find them; • How to gauge what data could be relevant;• How to draw this together and present it – knowing your audience (real life examples);• If writing was all it took – engagement knowing how and when; • How you can take it forward; and • Further guidance on evidence.
