Transformation through dancing in pursuit of spiritual communication is the basis of the folkloric movement you will learn in these classes. How to move and isolate your body in ways that the Afro Cubans know best! RUMBA (ALL LEVELS) Rumba is a traditional dance that was performed by workers of African descent in the streets and courtyards of Cuba in the late 19th century. It remains one of Cuba’s most characteristic forms of music and dance. There are three traditional forms of Rumba; Yambu, Columbia, and Guaguanco. Culturally, Rumba is danced as an interplay between male and females feeling the music “sabor” as its main ingredients. Much of the movement of the Rumba style dancing is based on the on interplay, teasing, feeling the clave, and everyday experiences. Polyrhythmic beats from Conga drums are also a key component for all the rumba styles also referred to as “The Heartbeat of Cuban Music”. More Info below.
