Kids Cook At The Market 2019 At King Farmers Market

Join us for our 18th season! Enroll your junior chefs — ages 7 to 12 — in Kids Cook at the Market classes, where they’ll cultivate culinary skills and experience a cornucopia of farm-fresh foods! At Kids Cook classes, kids learn about the seasonality of food, meet local farmers, and prepare ingredients purchased fresh at the market. Classes include shopping the market for ingredients, hands-on instruction, a shared meal, and recipes to take home so students can share what they learned with family and friends. Tickets are $10 per child, per class. ($5 per child for SNAP recipients) Build your junior chef's skills, confidence and community at these six classes at King Farmers Market this season: June 9: Quick Strawberry Jam on Pancakes Celebrate strawberries by making a quick jam to top pancakes! She has worked within Portland’s food scene for the past 12 years and has a strong passion for nutrition and healthy eating. For the past three years she has worked with local non-profits, teaching a variety of art and cooking classes. Her specialty is edible sculptures and believes food should be fun and for everyone. July classes: Nia Jones is an elementary school teacher and enthusiastic home chef. She believes cooking is a great way to express yourself and try new things. Just like famed chef Gusteau in the animated classic “Ratatouille”, Nia believes that anyone can cook. Nia’s favorite dish to prepare is shakshuka, a simple tomato-based stew that erupts with flavor from Mediterranean and North African spices. Photo credit: Amy Nieto More Info below.
