Tropical Africa Night - Orchestra Gold / YANGA $10 adv $12 door 21+ Two phenomenal ensembles of top-notch musicians bring the vintage vibes of Mali and Colombia in one evening.Orchestra Gold: Led by the ferocious Mariam Diakité from Bamako, Orchestra Gold (OG) promotes pre-digital age (OldStyle) music from Mali, West Africa. OG hypnotizes audiences with danceable, funky, high-energy 1960's style orchestra music from Mali. These roots are colored by tinges of 60’s era analog psychedelic rock and funk from West Africa. The building blocks of OG’s music are folkloric songs, often told in parable. These songs contain inspiration, wisdom, and deep insight into the human condition. They have served to uplift Malians beyond the harsh realities of daily life. Especially in this time of social turbulence, this age-old wisdom brings us a renewed perspective on modern-day existence.YANGA: Seamlessly blending tradition and progression to produce a rich and resonant sound, YANGA reinterprets the universal sound of Colombian rhythms and melody. Creating a unique variation of Columbia’s ever-expanding musical influence, the group brings sound that bridges the gap between past, present and future. YANGA is both the alias and project developed and led by composer and multi-instrumentalist John D’Alessandro. Hailing from San Bernardino, California, he has generated a sound that bridges the gap between past, present and future – drawing inspiration from the pulse of traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms and musical pioneers such as Andres Landero and Anibal Velasquez. Accompanied by a collective of distinguished musicians who have brought their diverse expertise and influence to his compositions, concept and sound – Yanga is an ever-evolving project.
