Nope! Our beginner drop-in lesson is specifically designed for people who have never danced before in their lives! (However, its also a great way for more experienced dancers to familiarize themselves with the style of dancing we do, and to meet the people youll be dancing with!) Do I need to bring a partner? Nope! Were a social dance group, which means you can dance lots of different people! Is Second Saturday Swing still on for this month? Almost certainly! Check our Facebook page or calendar for updates on when the dance will be canceled (generally only for major holidays).Welcome to Motor City Swing, a Detroit-area swing dance group! We have dances every Tuesday evening in Southfield, and occasionally run dances and workshops around metro Detroit. Northwest Unitarian Universalist Church 23925 Northwestern Hwy, Southfield, MI 8:15-9:15 pm: Drop-in beginner lesson 9:15-11 pm: Open dance DANCE + LESSON: 4 (3 for students) DANCE ONLY: 5 (4 for students) (No, that's not a typo -- you actually pay less if you take the lesson, not more!) We're an ambidancetrous group, which means that we encourage everyone to both lead and follow, and most of our lessons are taught this way. Why ambidancetrous? -- Learning both parts broadens your understanding of swing, and puts your dancing in context. (After all, if you only know one role, you only know half the dance!) -- By learning the basics of both parts, you can eventually make a real choice between them, rather than just guessing about which you'll prefer. -- Fosters an inclusive, LGBT-friendly environment. -- Helps desexualize dance by reinforcing the idea that anyone can dance with anyone. -- Doubles the number of people you can dance with and you'll never again have to worry about not having enough leads or follows!
