Join us in the courtyard before the film for a belly dance performance! Hollywood Premiere! THE FEZ 2017, 90 min, USA, Dir: Roxxanne Shelaby The Fez, the first night spot of its kind, opened in Hollywood in 1959, becoming a center for the Arabic community in Southern California as well as a catalyst for Arabic music and dance on the West Coast. The Fez went on to inspire generations of musicians and dancers well beyond Los Angeles before it closed in the 1980s. Featuring live Arabic music, belly dancers and the best Arabic food in town, the Fez has become legend. Director-producer Roxxanne Shelaby brings us into the heart of the Fez with this documentary featuring many of the artists who were there. They share their experiences of the magical nights at the Fez where Hollywood celebrities were regulars, Americans were introduced to and fell in love with the Arabic culture and a belly dance scene was born.
