FULL WORKSHOP DETAILS BELOW... !!! PUERTO RICAN MUSIC WORKSHOP !!! The Spanish Guitar and her Grandsons with Orlando Laureano Bring your guitars, cuatros, güiros and voices! This community workshop will include both expert demonstrations and hands-on learning! Workshop includes: * A master music demonstration by Orlando Laureano on cuatro and tiple Puertorriqueño, * History of the the Spanish guitar and her grandsons, * Instruction on and practice playing and singing rural mountain Jíbaro music. The Spanish guitar was introduced to Puerto Rico in the late 15th century. The instrument was quickly adopted by the country folk in remote mountain communities. Over time, the design of the guitar was modified, creating unique Puerto Rican descendants—the tiple Puertorriqueño, the cuatro and the bordonua. Together, these stringed instruments became the backbone of the Jíbaro music from the mountains. They were also incorporated into the bailes de salón performed at “upper-class” social gatherings. !!! FLAMENCO DANCE WORKSHOP !!! Flamenco Music, Dance and Communication with Illeana Gomez & Alejandro Pais Iriart Flamenco is an art form from Andalucia, Spain that has been forged as a result of the cultural influences that the region has had for 1000’s of years. This art is most clearly expressed through its cante (song), baile (dance) and toque (guitar playing). This community workshop will focus on flamenco as social and cultural practice. In this basic class we will learn some essential dance properties such as body posture, and basic steps; as well as identify essential musical elements, thus creating a basic vocabulary necessary for participation. By understanding its unique vocabulary and respecting common social elements of communication, students will be able to experience the art form as a fluid conversation between participants. - Body posture - Aesthetic - Body language and cuing - Musical structure and cuing - Vocabulary - Palmas (hand clapping) - Rhythm FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: Tekina-eirú Maynard, PRFDance Director Email: [hidden].
