My beginner’s workshop is designed to introduce history, theory and basic technique to the inquiring novice dancer. Belly Dance is all-inclusive and has a place for every interested individual - from all backgrounds, races, identities, genders, shapes, and sizes. Applying yourself to intentional movement helps shape not only your body, but your mind and emotional well-being. Taking control of the brain, to take control of the body. After experiencing and witnessing these all-encompassing benefits, it is my pleasure and passion to share with all willing participants. Keep in mind - if you have been my student for a while, we will be going over things from the VERY beginning. You can never know this information -too- deeply, so I'm not discouraging anybody from participating. I'd just hate for anybody to get bored hearing me go over things you have heard over and over. c; WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Comfortable clothes you can move/stretch in freely. (Yoga pants work better than gypsy skirts for more accurate postural corrections/stretching. Showing your belly is not required). A water bottle. I will have scarves/coin belts for loan, but if you wish to sport your own, feel free! Wear that pretty smile! My class statement: In all of my classes, we begin with introducing a grounded posture by rooting ourselves firmly to the ground beneath, expanding our hearts, and channeling our breath. Practicing these concepts, in and out of class, allows us to move intently through our space/time in the same geometrical shapes from which we were formed. By doing this, we establish a closer relationship with our body, mind, heart, and spirit (however defined). Together we explore posture, breath, muscle isolation, and balance by applying them to technical rhythmic practices. My classes are formatted to aid students in discovering, cultivating, and nurturing their own expressive voice through creative movement. It is my goal to provide theory and knowledge for students to reach comfort in their form and eventually achieve improvisational dance. $20 - Adult admission $15 - Student admission 9-18 years old I am not accepting payment prior to the event, but all forms of payment are accepted at the studio.
