Near East Dance Instructors Clinic

Dance instruction involves more than just leading students through movement. With teaching comes responsibility. We are like a the torch...we light the way for our students! Many instructors of Near East Dance did not come into teaching by way of a university dance education program that requires knowledge in kinesiology, muscle physiology, movement analysis, dance ethnology, movement progression and aesthetics, yet many have discovered the importance of developing knowledge in these areas so that they can understand with more depth what they are trying to convey to their students. They find themselves better equipped to analyze their own ability to teach effectively when they have added these tools. Teachers all develop their own style and teach according to their own methods which is why it is so exciting to study with various "master" instructors who have committed themselves to knowing all there is to know about how the body moves and how a body can express a theme based on components which are derived from the science of movement and how it relates to the creative mind. Dance involves the mind, the body and the spirit and knowledge in the development of all three is the only way to achieve a state of communion. Achieving that level of understanding rewards you with the ability to simplify for those we enlighten! “The average teacher explains complexity; the gifted teacher reveals simplicity.” – Robert Brault Content: *Basic Kinesiological Principals Muscle Physiology including but not limited to definition of planes, function of certain muscles in specific movements, points of insertion and attachment, physiology of warming up and cooling down and use of breath. *Effort Shape Movement Analysis which will include Primary and Secondary Qualities of Movement and how to apply them in dance sequences. *Elements of Movement which are Space, Time and Force and how to apply these elements to convey a theme whether it be the music, literary or an abstract concept.
