Class Wednesday is with the fabulous Ken Datugan and percussionist, Craig Shields! ONLY FIVE BUCKS! Ken Datugan was born in Bataan, Philippines and raised in Long Beach, Ca. In 2002, Ken received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from California Institute of the Arts. After graduation, Ken performed for a myriad of companies: The Ciagio Collective, The Rai Aoo’s Dance Planet Company, The Big Show Company and for Liz Hoefner-Adamis and Denise Leitner to name a few. In 2008, Ken launched DatuganDanceTheatre (DDT), a Los Angeles County based contemporary dance company, which uses dance to narrate urban stories, share personal histories and reflect on the plight of the human condition and issues prevalent in the community. DDT had produced three solo productions in Los Angeles: “IN CIRCLES” 2009, “BY NUMBERS” 2010 and “BEING HUMAN” 2013. Furthermore, DDT co-hosted several community projects: “Line Up” 2011(with Dancing with Long Beach), “Count Point” 2012, a fundraising event for The Andrea Rizzo Foundation (with Trade & Row). Simultaneously, DDT had participated as a presenter at “SoCal Invitational”, “Push Play 2”, and Friends Family Dance Festival (2012), Pasadena Dance Festival, Pasadena Art Walk, Standing on the Edge Festival and Lotus Breeze Summer Dance Festival (2013). This year, Ken was commissioned to set choreography for Lakewood High School Advanced Dance Team, Grand Arts Dance Company at Ramón C. Cortines School for Visual & Performing Arts and is a guest choreographer for Long Beach City College Dance Department. Moreover, Ken teaches master classes at Fullerton College, Cerritos College, Long Beach City College and he is in pre-production for DDT’s next show. He is a member of the Latin alternative folk band Cuñao and works full-time at Renaissance Arts Academy, a performing arts charter school in Eagle Rock. Craig regularly accompanies for the Contemporary Modern Dance Cooperative in downtown L.A. and has previously accompanied for Chapman University, The Wooden Floor, and Backhausdance in Orange County. He holds degrees in Percussion Performance and Music Education from Chapman University (2012) and continues to freelance throughout Southern California. More Info below.
