“Oh, zumba!” “Oh, it’s that sensual sexy dance where the girl shakes her butt?” “It’s like tango right?” 🤷Ask any kizomba dancer if they’ve ever had someone say one of the above to them. Heck, they most likely said the same thing when they first discovered this dance. (No judgement, we promise.) And while there are many kizomba ladies who can expertly shake their butts, that is not at all what this beautiful, close-embraced partner dance is all about. So what is it all about then? ▶️Kizomba owes its origins to a troubled period of civil war in Angola (and to Cape Verde and other PALOP countries in Africa). Much of the music reflects these difficult times. The dancing itself became a way to connect with others and to hold them close. Connection. That’s really what kizomba is all about. 🤗 So, if you’re NOT into hugs, then this dance might not be for you.
