2019 Loc Summer Movies On The Lawn - A League Of Their Own

2019 LOC Summer Movies on the Lawn A League of Their Own Thursday, July 258:30pm (ET) - Film begins at sunset*Event will end upon film completion "A League of Their Own" (Columbia Pictures, 1992) 128 min. Director Penny Marshall used the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (1943-1954) as a backdrop for this heartfelt comedy-drama. "A League of Their Own," featuring an ensemble cast that includes Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell, not only illuminates this fascinating, under-reported aspect of American sports history, but also effectively examines women's changing roles during wartime. Rich with period detail and equally complex performances—especially Davis as a team ringer and Hanks as the down-on-his-luck coach—Marshall and her company delivered an enjoyably nostalgic film about women's choices and solidarity during World War II that was both funny and feminist. "A League of Their Own" was added to the National Film Registry in 2012. Located between the Supreme Court and the Jefferson Building, 10 First St., SE (running the length of East Capitol Street between First and Second Streets, SE), the north lawn of the Jefferson Building provides a comfortable space for people to watch the feature films. Moviegoers are welcome to bring picnics. Join us every Thursday starting Thursday, July 11 for awesome flicks from the National Film Registry. The series is part of the Library's annual programming theme to explore America's changemakers. It kicks off with Walt Disney’s first live-action movie to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture and ends with the first film in which computer-generated characters interacted with human actors on screen: July 11: “Mary Poppins” (2013 National Film Registry) Tickets: [hidden] July 18: “Beauty and the Beast” (2002 National Film Registry) Tickets: [hidden] July 25: “League of Their Own” (2012 National Film Registry) Tickets: [hidden] Aug. 1: “Jaws” (2001 National Film Registry) Tickets: [hidden] Aug. 8: “E.T.
