For more information about our event and venue, please check out our FAQs and click on the links below: [hidden] [hidden] FAQ's Who can participate? Anyone can participate! Home bakers/brewers/cooks, canners, gardeners, food bloggers, professional chefs, students...pretty much anyone who likes to grow, make, or share food. We have food swappers of all ages and cultures. This is not a forum for commercial sellers and growers. All participants must be individuals trading goods that they made, grew, or foraged themselves. Some examples of popular food swap items include jams, pickles, salsa or relishes, baked goods, granola, spice mixes, homemade pasta, vegetables or herbs. We strongly recommend that you bring samples, of the items you are swapping, for tasting by potential swappers. The sky is the limit. Think outside of the bakery box! How does it work? Items are swapped one for one, so please keep that mind when making and packaging your goods. You can always double the amount of the item you are swapping to make it an even trade with someone else's item. Bring as many or as few items as you would like. Follow us on all of our Social Media Platforms for Tasty Recipes and Fabulous Ideas. [hidden] [hidden] [hidden] Check out this link of great tips: [hidden] ~First, swappers set up with their wares -- please keep in mind that people will want to examine your goods, so package them accordingly. Swappers should bring a swap card for each different item that they intend to swap. So for example, if you bring five jars of strawberry jam and 3 small boules of Sourdough bread, you would fill out two swap cards: one for the jam and one for the bread. The swap card lists what the item is, the ingredients it contains (being mindful of food allergies) and suggested uses, if applicable. You will receive an email from us with all the information you need. ~After the items are set up, everybody circulates around the room. Interested parties offer bids on the swap cards for each item, but these are just a way to open discussion. The first 45 minutes or so is spent circulating and making offers on swap cards and then the actual swapping begins. You are not obligated to swap with anyone, even if you bid on his/her item or he/she bids on yours. Actual swapping takes place through discussion and agreement. No one will be angry or offended if you choose not to swap with them. There may be various reasons why one particular item may not be a good fit for a person or their household. By having more than one item to swap, this will give you more to barter with. Remember, no money is changing hands. All swaps are by barter only. *We do, on occasion, have items available for purchase from our various host locations. More information about this will be sent in your Welcome e-mail. Disclaimer Swap participants automatically agree to the following terms when registering for a South Bay Food Swap: *By participating in these events, you are acknowledging that the food items being traded are not necessarily prepared in commercial kitchens or spaces inspected by any government agency. **By participating in these events, you are also acknowledging that you will use the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in food preparation and gardening. Food safety and food handling regulations within the United States can be found at: [hidden] ***By participating in these events, you assume ALL Liability; specifically, you agree to not hold liable food swap hosts, swap venue owners/providers or other swap participants. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? The minimum age requirement to participate in this event is 12 years old. All minors, under 16 years old, must be accompanied by an adult. A reservation and signed liability waiver is required for ALL people intending to swap items. Non-swapping guests are welcome to come and observe or assist you with your items, but they still must be registered to attend. If you plan to bring a family member or friend who will be participating, we ask that they register separately. Children are welcome but please be aware that kids may become bored easily at this kind of event and may require more of your attention than you might anticipate. ID to verify age is not required, unless you are swapping for an alcoholic item or you are purchasing an alcoholic item from our venue. You must be over 21+ years old to swap for an alcoholic item. *ID will be required should there be any discrepancy with ticket holder information or verification. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? The Honest Abe Cidery is located close to all major Freeways (the 405,110 & 91). It is also about 2.7 miles from the Harbor Gateway Transit Center (bay2). The transit Center is also an Entry & Exit point for FasTrak toll Lanes and Metro express Lanes. [hidden] Since the Cidery is located in a warehouse district, there is ample, FREE, STREET PARKING. Registration fees may vary based on the venue. Refunds will not be given unless the event is cancelled by SBFS. If you are unable to attend, we kindly ask that you send us a courtesy email, as we maintain a waiting list and must have ample time to offer the opening to another interested swapper.
