The state of Montana has a rich history of folk music, and the Montana Folk Festival is one of the best events in the nation to see both local and national folk music on full display. A totally free festival in Butte, Montana, this event has many stages with traditional music, and it tends to focus on a theme like 2014s The Culture of the Car. The location of the festival is unique and speaks to the history of the state, with mining headframes and old buildings on all sides as well as views of the Rocky Mountains. There are regular festival amenities, such as local and ethnic food (like Cornish pasties! ) and drink vendors, and the performers are traditional music artists of all genres and backgrounds, coming from all over the world to perform.
