With repertoire from composers like Pixinguinha, Baden Powell, and Tom Jobim, the duo navigates effortlessly through the many styles of 20th century Brazilian popular music while showcasing original works and inventive arrangements. Duo Violão joins Bay Area based, percussionist Ami Molinelli in some very special shows throughout the Bay Area and New Mexico in exploration of their new project “Historia de Choro or A History of Choro music.” This concert will feature the release of a new album that chronicles over 160 years of Brazil’s first national music, “choro.” Musical styles recorded include the Lundu, European Valsa, polca, tango habanera, maxixe styles that created the genre of Choro music and paralleled America’s Jazz music with Indigenous, European and African influences.
