The MCI is proud to welcome Mexican flamenco guitarist, Andrea Salcedo with special guest, flamenco singer and percussionist, Francisco “Yiyi” Orozco on Thursday, February 28 th at 6:45 pm at the Music Room of the Institute. Program The artists present a selection of works that showcases the great masters of the flamenco guitar such as Paco de Lucia, Manolo Sanlúcar, or Manuel Moreno “Moraito”, while also presenting some of the variety of styles of flamenco such as bulerías, granaina, and tangos, among others. About Andrea Salcedo: A native of Mexico, and based in the city of Chicago, Andrea received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance on Classical Guitar from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, where she studied under Fareed Haque. She is also alumna of the famous conservatory for children and youth in the city of Chicago, Merit School of Music, where she graduated with honors. Andrea has studied in Spain and the United States with some of the most important figures of the flamenco guitar such as Manolo Sanlúcar, José Antonio Carmona “Pepe Habichuela”, Jesús de Aracely, Eduardo Rebollar, Antonio Sánchez, and Joni Jiménez, among others. Currently, Andrea is an artist-in-residence at the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago. About Francisco Javier Orozco, Yiyi: Considered a “child prodigy” of percussion, Yiyi began his professional career at the young age of twelve. By seventeen years of age he recorded his first CD and became more involved with singing, and left Spain for Germany on a long-term contract with the company “Flamenco Rubio”. Since then he has performed with top dance companies such as “Compañia Flamenca Alhama” throughout Europe and Japan. More Info below.
