California is the top agriculture producing state in the country. What does that mean? It means we grow more food, fiber, flowers, forest, and fuel than any other state. Look around you, where ever you live, not too far away, are the ranches and farms that grow these commodities. This event is inspired by the wealth of commodities that grow in our state. Over 400 different commodities grow in California. During this event we will learn about each of the Top-Ten and you’ll also find activities and challenges to get you thinking a little deeper about what goes into the commodities that are growin’ around here! This one event hosts 3 workshops. Preregister for $20/student or $30/student on day of event . California's Top 10 Farmer Andy will discuss the important role that agriculture plays in our everyday life. We will investigate the weath of commodities grown in our state and their economic benefits. Tortillas Into Quesadillas Chef Veronica will guide you through the process of making tortillas from scratch. You will then turn those tortillas into a quesadilla. The different types and the nutrition of the tortilla will be discussed. Salsa Trio Chef Ollie will teach you to make three types of salsa, Verde, Roja and Frijol. There will be a discussion on the importance of the tomato for health and California's economy. More Info below.
